Calvin Ridley had a phenomenal start to his Jacksonville Jaguar career, putting up 8 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in week 1 of the 2023 NFL season. Calvin has somewhat struggled to get it going in his next two games however, as he’s combined for only 5 catches for 72 yards in weeks 2 and 3, along with a few dropped passes and false start penalties. In todays episode of MTS Mike Talks Sports, I dive into the career of Calvin Ridley, along with his strengths and weaknesses as a football player in order to determine: How good is Calvin Ridley actually? Is Calvin Ridley overrated, underrated or properly rated? Calvin Ridley was the 2nd receiver taken off the board in the 2018 NFL Draft, and was selected by the Atlanta Falcons out of Alabama. Calvin had very high highs and some low lows in his rookie campaign, but the future of him alongside Julio Jones and Matt Ryan seemed very promising. Calvin improved upon his rookie season in 2019, but the year was cut short due to an injury. In 2020 in the absence of Julio Jones for the majority of the season, Ridley had an incredible season, garnering all pro second team honors as he put up over 1300 yards and 9 touchdowns. His career has been shaky every since his sole 1000 yard season however, as he missed the majority of 2021 due to mental health issues and was traded in 2022 to the Jaguars after being suspended the entire year due to breaking the NFL’s gambling policy.
