The Geography syllabus requires our students to learn about the BRANCHES OF GEOGRAPHY
• Describe the two main branches of Geography – for example everything in their “classroom” is either natural or man-made,
• Identify and classify sub-branches of Geography as physical or human – for example having them list all the things that they can think that are Geography, arrange them in a table whether Physical or Human
This video provides a summary of these TWO MAIN categories known as the Branches of Geography.
Geography is divided into two main branches: human geography and physical geography.
Physical Geography focuses on the study of the NATURAL activities that take place on the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere of the Earth. It studies the nature, the physical features of the planet, the environment and the natural hazards.
Human or Cultural Geography focuses on the study of human societies, their cultural aspects and how they relate to the spaces and places of the Earth. It studies the effects of human activities on the planet. It comprises different fields such as Population, Urbanisation, Economic Structures and Activities, Interdependence and Development, Political Organisation, etc.

​The main aim of Geography is to combine the findings in both branches, Physical and Human Geography, to understand the interactions between human beings and the planet they live in.

​Population Geography or Demography
Biogeography
Economic Geography
Political Geography
Urban Geography
Climatology
Meteorology
Geomorphology
Cartography...
