CRS + HIPEC Surgery के बाद Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer Recovery Timeline | Dr Praveen Kammar, Mumbai
How is recovery after Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer CRS & HIPEC?
Many patients and families wonder what to expect after this major surgery. I explain step by step, covering ICU stay, diet progression, and key recovery milestones.
What happens during Cytoreductive Surgery?
CRS removes the uterus, tubes, ovaries, and tumor spread. Depending on disease extent, parts of the rectum, stomach, or colon may also be removed. Surgery lasts 3–6 hours, plus 90 minutes for HIPEC using Cisplatin.
How long is ICU stay after HIPEC Surgery?
Patients usually stay 2–3 days in ICU. Blood pressure, urine output, and breathing are closely monitored. Support may include inotropes, electrolyte correction, and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
When do cancer patients move to the ward after surgery?
Most patients stabilize by Day 3–4 and shift to the ward. Ward recovery takes 6–7 days, with gradual progression from liquid diet to soft food. IV fluids are reduced by Day 5–6.
What is the total hospital stay after cancer surgery?
Overall hospital stay is usually 7–10 days. Some recover faster (7 days), while others may take up to 2 weeks depending on surgery complexity and health.
Why CRS & HIPEC are important for Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer?
HIPEC with Interval CRS improves outcomes in Stage 3B/3C peritoneal metastasis. Evidence for upfront HIPEC is still limited but promising.
