Roll Cage Radio - Jobsite radios are very popular and manufacturers are quickly changing their models to fit the end user's needs. Dewalt introduced the DCR025 as an upgrade at the Dewalt Experience in 2016. This unit is Bluetooth and has the capability to communicate with your phone so you can skip forward in songs without toughing your phone. Also with the timing of the release, this jobsite radio has a 3 amp charger to help give faster to charging to the larger Flexvolt batteries, as well as the other 20 volt max batteries.

Dewalt set the bar very high with jobsite radio sound quality when they released the ToughSystem Music. That radio included a sub-woofer and was IP65 rated, but it lacked a solid cord and auxiliary power outlets that many wanted on the jobsite. The DCR025 has the roll cage and auxiliary power outlets, but does not match the sound quality as it lacks a sub-woofer. Also, like the model the DCR025 replaced, the FM reception is hit or miss. In our stick built shop, our favorite radio channel was unavailable unless we went outside. This seems to be a common theme for some jobsite radios.

2 Additional AC power outlets (10 Amp Max)
Aux & 2.1 AMP USB Charging Ports
AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Protocol) allows you to control your device from the radio
20 Watts Per Channel Woofers, tweeters, and air ports

Phone Storage

Smartphones are now in the hands of 90% of phone users. These phones keep getting larger and larger to allow for multiple uses. The DCR025 has ample storage for your large, or super large smartphone. It will even fit a mini tablet. Inside the storage area, there is a USB outlet that will charge at 2.1 amp and a Aux input so you do not have to run Bluetooth. The charger will work when you are corded or when you are running off the battery.

The one thing that seems to be missing from this radio is an IP rating. It is not rated for a fall or for dust or water intrusion. The phone storage area does not have a gasket, but it would help to protect a phone in the rain. Water and dust will be able to get in, but we feel the amount of water that would get in there in a rain storm is minimal.

Overall

While the FM reception has not improved much, the battery charger has. The charger is faster and it does not interfere with the FM signal. While the sound is clear, you do not get the bass like some of the other Dewalt radios. There is no doubt, this would be my choice for a Dewalt radio on the Jobsite, but if I were working in a nice clean environment, the ToughSystem Music is hard to beat.
