Welcome to Old Time Radio Classics! Tonight's episode is "Requiem" from the acclaimed science fiction series X MINUS ONE, originally broadcast on October 27, 1955.
🚀 ABOUT THIS EPISODE:
Adapted from the classic short story by Robert A. Heinlein, "Requiem" tells the poignant tale of D.D. Harriman—a wealthy industrialist who spent his life and fortune making space travel possible, yet was never allowed to journey to the Moon himself. Now elderly and in failing health, Harriman is determined to finally achieve his lifelong dream, no matter the cost.
This story was remarkably prophetic. Written in 1940, it predicted private space entrepreneurs decades before SpaceX and Blue Origin. Heinlein imagined billionaires, not governments, opening the space frontier.
📖 ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Robert A. Heinlein (1907-1988) was known as "The Dean of Science Fiction." His works include Stranger in a Strange Land, Starship Troopers, and The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. "Requiem" is part of his Future History series and serves as a sequel to "The Man Who Sold the Moon."
