🌼 The Significance of Lakshmi Puja
Lakshmi Puja is celebrated during the auspicious time of Sharad Purnima or on Diwali night, depending on regional traditions. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi to invite her divine blessings into their homes. She is considered the goddess of wealth, fortune, purity, and prosperity. Performing Lakshmi Puja with devotion is believed to remove poverty, bring success, and fill life with peace and happiness.
The goddess is usually worshipped in three forms: Mahalakshmi (wealth), Mahasaraswati (wisdom), and Mahakali (strength). Together, they signify the complete growth and prosperity of an individual’s life.
🪔 Traditional Preparations for Lakshmi Puja
Before the puja, families clean and decorate their homes, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi visits only those households that are pure, clean, and filled with positivity. People decorate their doors with torans, hang mango leaves, and create colorful rangolis to welcome the goddess. Diyas and candles are lit everywhere to remove darkness and negativity.
In many homes, new clothes are worn, sweets are prepared, and offerings such as fruits, coconut, flowers, betel leaves, and coins are arranged beautifully in front of the idol or picture of Goddess Lakshmi.
🌸 Rituals and Puja Vidhi
The puja usually begins with a prayer to Lord Ganesha, as he is the remover of obstacles. Then, Goddess Lakshmi is invoked with mantras, bhajans, and offerings. The Shodashopachara Puja (16-step ritual) is followed in many households, where the goddess is offered flowers, incense, water, clothes, ornaments, food, and prayers.
People chant Lakshmi Mantras and recite Lakshmi Chalisa to seek her blessings. Families often perform aarti together, filling the house with devotion and peace.

Lakshmi Puja is not just a religious ritual—it’s also about strengthening family bonds.
