How can I use KiwiSaver for my first home? Liam, one of our advisers, explains how first-time buyers can use their KiwiSaver for a home deposit. To be eligible, you must have contributed for at least three years, and you must leave a minimum of $1,000 in your KiwiSaver account.

For instance, if you have $10,000, you can withdraw $9,000 for the deposit, leaving $1,000 in your account.

He also highlights that KiwiSaver cannot typically be used for investment properties or secondary purchases made with family members. It is mainly intended for first home purchases.
