KISS w/ THE MELVINS

This was the first time in my life that I had ever waited in line over night for a set of concert tickets (outside the police jury building in da Parish) but I was not gonna miss the original KISS in full make up here at the Superdome!! Jamie, Earl and I had floor seats for this incredible show. THE MELVINS opened which was super cool to have a band that is such an influence on the New Orleans Underground scene play in our biggest venue. It was well deserved and they were great. Most of the KISS Army wasn’t into them but those of us who are, loved them!!

So now it’s time the lights dim and that ominous rumble comes through the monster PA system followed by that announcement of “ALRIGHT…… YOU WANTED THE BEST AND YOU GOT THE BEST….THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD….KISS!!!!!” Holy moly this is happening!!! We’re seeing KISS in MAKEUP!!! They started in with “Deuce” and let the pyros and explosions begin!!! WOW!!! They didn’t stop!! Paul was and is the quintessential Rock Front Man and Ringleader of this circus. Hands down one of the best frontmen that there ever was. And he would give us the quote of the night that would be in our lexicon for decades to come. There was a gal up front pressing her breasts together in a low-cut shirt, showing off her cleavage to get his attention. Of course Paul notices this and says “I wanna see where the milk comes from!” hahaha

So the security was pretty tight at this show so I couldn’t seek in a camera but some crafty concert goers were able to bypass this security with more than just a camera. So we’re in it watching the show and I turned to my right down our aisle and see a guy removed his prosthetic leg. He proceeds to pull out a bottle of booze and some joints from the hollowed-out center. He had the biggest smile on his face and so did the rest of us watching this unfold next to us. After the stash was dug out of the hollow part of the prosthetic, this crafty pirate proceeded to share his bounty with this other concert goers. It was take a pull off the bottle and pass it down and puff puff pass on the joints and smiling from ear to ear saying thank you to this kat. Helping us all recreate a true 1970’s KISS show experience.

To say this was a dream come true for us to see is a mild understatement. This was the 9th date of the Reunion Tour with the original lineup and in full make up!! And it was everything you wanted in a true KISS show. They were energized and smiling and having as great of a time as we were. The set list was phenomenal. It was the soundtrack of our youth all right there in front of us!! To see Ace’s guitar smoking, Peter’s drum rise, Gene spitting Blood and breathing fire and Paul breaking a guitar with mass amounts of explosions was incredible!! What a show!!! Often imitated but never duplicated, nobody puts on a show like KISS, Fucking NOBODY!!! Have a seat under the learning tree and this is how it’s done!!
