An Introvert Awkwardly Confesses Love to Her Best Friend via Karaoke - LGBTQ+ Short Film

Cartesian Presents Goodbye Janet, an LGBTQ+ short film about an introvert confessing love to her best friend at a drunken going away karaoke party.

From the director Will Schneider: I have always loved karaoke. One night, while sitting in one of my local haunts and watching several drunk regulars perform their hearts out, an idea popped into my head: what if someone went up to sing and ended up crooning an original song, confessing their unrequited love for a close friend in front of a packed room? This idea could not escape me, and I eventually sat down to write what ended up being the first draft of "Goodbye Janet."

I've long wanted to direct a musical of sorts, and this film is as close as I've ever been to achieving that goal. I not only wrote the script, but I also wrote the song our protagonist sings. Every part of this film was a challenge, including the shocking ending. But I think we captured something heartbreaking and true, and I am so proud of the final product.

Unrequited love sucks, especially when it's for a best friend who's about to leave your life forever. But if this film has any overall message, it's that it is always better to get these feelings out than to hold them in. Especially if you love karaoke.
