It got that way through two destructive processes that in the first case completely wiped out the natural environment that had once existed there, which was treasured by Hawaiians for centuries for its abundance and beauty. Historic photos shown in this program document what was lost. But in the future, Waikiki will again face potential destruction from climate change. How will we deal with this?

The takeaway was: Since Waikiki is the biggest part of Hawaii's tourist industry and is crucial to the functioning of our economy, we must understand its past to be able to cope with what the future will bring to it. The reality of the rising level of the ocean is already here; what will be the effects on Waikiki? How can we judge the plans which will be presented to cope with what nature will be bringing us?
