As someone who LOVES luxury collabs, I'm starting to feel burnt out! Fashion houses have made it a trend to collaborate- with other houses, athletic clothing or shoe brands, artists, streetwear, etc. At some point, it stops being novel and exciting and starts to just be cash grabs and manufactured hype.

So let's talk about it by starting with what was, for me, the beginning of luxury collabs when Marc Jacobs was the creative director for Louis Vuitton. And then let's go through a summary of what's happened recently, like for example Adidas working with Prada, Balenciaga, AND Gucci all very recently. And many pieces in these recent collabs are very expensive and lack quality of design! It's disappointing and tiring.

To be fair though, we need to also talk about those doing it right, like the Hacker Project for Gucci x Balenciaga and the Loewe x Studio Ghibli partnership. And also look at upcoming collabs, like Nike x Jacquemus, which also looks exciting. Why do these collabs make sense and feel right while so many other recent collabs feel manufactured for money?
