Stunt doubles and coordinators are protesting that, once again, there is no Best Stunt Coordinator category included in this year's Academy Awards...

The Academy reviewed and rejected the request in 2011 and again in 2012. In fact, the Academy has rejected the proposal to add a Best Stunt Coordinator category every single year from 1991 to now. The last current category added? Best Animated Feature in 2001, and before that, Best Makeup and Hairstyling in 1981. In 35 years, the Academy has only added two new categories to the Oscars that have stuck, and at this point, its ongoing refusal to acknowledge the stunt community with its own category is inexplicable and baffling. The blockbuster-heavy reality of film today relies as much on stunts as it does makeup and hair, with a large portion of the most memorable moments in film involving their spectacle.
