Setting up TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password) for Gmail using Bitwarden allows you to centralize both your login credentials and two-factor authentication (2FA) codes in one secure, encrypted vault. Bitwarden’s built-in TOTP generator is compatible with Gmail's 2FA system, offering a seamless and secure experience when logging into your Google account.

To begin, open the Gmail app on your mobile device and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner. Select 'Manage your Google Account'. Once inside your account settings, navigate to the 'Security' tab. Scroll down to find 'Signing in to Google' and tap on '2-Step Verification'. You’ll be asked to confirm your identity—complete the verification as prompted.

Once you're in the 2-Step Verification settings, scroll to find the section labeled 'Authenticator App'. Tap on it to begin the setup process. Google will display a QR code and, optionally, a manual setup key. This QR code or key is what you’ll use to link your Google account with Bitwarden.

Now, open the Bitwarden app and log in. Tap on the plus (+) icon under the 'My Vault' section to create a new login. Enter a name like 'Gmail' or 'Google Account', along with your email and password. Then, either tap 'Set up authenticator key' to scan the QR code from your Google 2FA setup, or manually enter the key provided. Bitwarden will immediately begin generating 6-digit codes for your Gmail login, which refresh every 30 seconds.

Finally, go back to the Google 2-Step Verification setup page and enter the current code displayed in Bitwarden to confirm the link. Once verified, Bitwarden will serve as your 2FA code generator for Gmail moving forward.
