Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends -- Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo -- have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape -- with the help of some prodigious penguins -- to explore the world.

King Julien XIII is a major character in the Madagascar franchise, the anti-hero of The Penguins of Madagascar, and the anti-heroic main protagonist of All Hail King Julien. He was formerly the King of Madagascar until he decided to join the Zoosters on their way back to New York and ended up landing in Africa instead. In The Penguins of Madagascar, he is the King of The Central Park Zoo (much to his former king status in All Hail King Julien and Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa). He loves to dance and hates it when anyone touches his feet because one time someone stepped on his feet. Maurice is his best friend and Clover is his former bodyguard. He thinks that Mort is annoying. He has a scar from a Fossa ( Pronounced Foosa ) biting his butt in the 1st episode of AHKJ.

Maurice (born as Bricky) is a major character in the Madagascar franchise. He is an aye-aye lemur and King Julien's royal advisor and right-hand man. He is a side character in the films, The Penguins of Madagascar, and the deuteragonist of All Hail King Julien.
