The series of annual TV dramas known as 'A Ghost Story For Christmas' ended in 1979, but the tradition continued in fits and starts over the years. This example, from 1986, used a format that would return years later, and essentially the same as the children's show Jackanory. Jackanory was a daily programme in which a storyteller would read episodes from a given novel to the watching audience, often sitting on a set decorated to reflect the contents of the story, and sometimes 'in character'. 'Classic Ghost Stories', though broadcast late at night, was effectively a spin-off from Jackanory, made by the same producer. Robert Powell was the storyteller, more or less taking on the person of M.R. James, sitting in his study, reading five M.R. James stories to camera.

You can see these TV programmes easily enough elsewhere on youtube - but by their nature they work very well in audio and so I present them here in an audio-only format consistent with the rest of the channel's content.
