Eastern corner of Nepal is full of diversities. Different people belonging to different communities live here peacefully. It is quite hard to tell exact date of Bodo's arrival in Nepali territory but it is clear they have been living here since ages. They are very small in population and have kept themselves far from modernity. Peace loving, shy, courageous, hardworking, nature-lovers are some words that can describe Meches in Jhapa, Nepal.
During King's reign, crossing the border was quite tough. Nepal army used to watch this side and other part was guarded by Indian security force. Divided by the border but people residing near the bordering area, are related with cultural similarities. This similarity has given birth to so many ways of livelihood for people of both side.
It is said that, once when it became so hard for Meches to sell their liquor, some courageous leaders of society got the idea to present a pot of liquor to King Birendra, when he had arrived to Chadragadhi Rangashala. When mild- hearted King Birendra got to know about their business and culture, he ordered, " Let them live, don't disturb them" . Since then, Meche community has got some emotional support from general people too. It is another aspect that home made liquor ( Raksi ) is an integral part of their society.
We have tried to show Meche women's courage, and their importance in their society. A community which knows how to respect it's female. The documentary is revealing an interesting relationship between Mechi River and Meche Tribe.
