CVC words are words with 3 letters starting with a constant letter then a vowel letter then a constant letter [constant+vowel+constant]

The secret is vowels. If one vowel is in a 3 letter word, the sound of the vowel will give a short sound. However, if there are two vowels in a four-letter word, the first letter will take on a long sound while the second one is silent. Short vowels words: Hat, peg, pin, got, yum. Long vowel words: pale, meat, pile, mole, mule.
