The composition of this print is marked by the diagonal line created by the barrier, over which an expectant public lean, and the horizontal line formed by the ground, which divides the space into an area of shade and another filled with light. In between, standing out against the light background, is the striking figure of the bullfighter Martincho, immobilised with shackles on his ankles, who uses his hat as a muleta, the matador's red cape with attached stick, in order to humiliate the bull and cause it to charge. The scene captures the dramatic effect of the moment, and becomes a tribute to the famous bullfighter, one of the most outstanding matadors from the Navarrese-Aragonese school, a style characteristic of the 18th century that was based on plays of the body and acrobatics in order to avoid the bull's attack.
