The Cheapest Aluminum LS! Pro Touring Triumph Build – Project GT6R – Ep20

Описание к видео The Cheapest Aluminum LS! Pro Touring Triumph Build – Project GT6R – Ep20

Today we get the LS4 and T5 fully sorted out with a custom clutch, flywheel and starter motor setup!

It's safe to say you've probably heard of the LS engine family... they’ve been swapped into everything! But, did you know there is one all-aluminum model, which has escaped the price inflation of the others? It's called the LS4.

The LM4 or L33 are the usual "cheap" go-to options for an aluminum block LS ... if you can find them. However, if you do get a complete one, you'll quickly find that the intake manifold, oil pan, and accessory drive are all too big for most cars (especially a tiny British Sports car!)... and buying the “car version” of those parts will quickly make these options far less appealing than you originally thought.

Dressed LS6 intake manifolds alone, for example, sell for around $800 CAD online, and when you add that onto the price of the L33, you could have just bought an LS1 for $2000.

Sure, you could buy a used $500 iron-block truck engine (Vortec) if you want the absolute cheapest solution, but they weigh 100lbs more, and still have the rest of those fitment issues!

So, how much was our LS4 then? About $700 USD! (including taxes and core charge)

Maybe that piqued your interest then... so what’s the catch?

You're sharp. There are three catches! First, the bellhousing bolt pattern is not the normal 90 degree design GM has used on every LS, small-block, and big-block engine since the 50s ... rather, it is the 60 degree pattern which is most commonly seen on Gm V6s. Secondly, there is no starter motor mount ... and thirdly, there is no off the shelf flywheel available.

Sooooo... maybe it's cheap for a reason.

Never say never though. All these issues can be solved... it just takes some creativity!

HUGE thanks to Scott Costanzo for pioneering this setup: http://forum.britishv8.org/read.php?6...

Our 1971 Triumph GT6 is receiving a transplanted 5.3l LS4 V8 and Mustang T5 gearbox... among other things... like a Corvette Dana 36 differential... and the front suspension from a Crown Victoria… and a bellhousing from a Jeep.

So. Not exactly your typical Triumph.

Next time we'll be sorting out the transmission mount, which will get the car rolling for the very first time on its new drivetrain - so SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss anything!
