This is a play through (including 100% completion) of Star Wars for the Sega Master System. This was one of my favourite games as a kid and easily one of the best for the system. In the future I plan to do a full review but at the moment this is just basic game play footage.

When this game was released in 1991 it was arguably the best Star Wars game yet available for the home consoles. The game itself is a fairly faithful retelling of Star Wars: A New Hope complete with cruising around tatooine looking for RD2D, flying through the Alderaan debris field in the Millennium Falcon, searching the Death Star for Princess Leia, blasting TIE fighters in Luke's X-Wing, and the Death Star trench run. Many of the major characters from the film are present with the noticeable exceptions of Chewbacca and, oddly, Darth Vader.


The gameplay is typical side scrolling platforming action with first person rail shooter segments for the ship battles. The games biggest (and most frustrating) flaw is the use of incredibly difficult platforming sections to artificially lengthen the gameplay. One particular example is towards the end of the Death Star levels where you have to make a jump from a moving conveyor belt to a very high, and very small, platform located off screen. Wait too long and the conveyor pushes you onto spikes doing you damage, but jump too early and you won't have enough speed to make it up to the platform also causing you to fall into spikes, and if you jump too far you will jump over the platform...
