Unboxing the LIVE YOUR VALUES Deck by Lisa Congdon ( Pt 1- What Works- Rethinking Goal Setting)

Today I unboxed The LIVE YOUR VALUES Deck by Lisa Congdon. According to Lisa, "When we make our core values the guiding force in our lives, remarkable things happen. Living your values increases your compassion, reduces your stress, enhances your confidence, and allows you to experience more intimacy in your relationships."

When you receive your own deck, you'll find 73 Values Cards plus 5 sorting cards to help categorize your values by how much they do or don't matter to you at this present stage of life. The tricky part is then to take what matters most, and filter those down to your Top 10, and then rank them from 1 to 10.

For me, this was the hardest step, as I haven't yet ranked the top 10, but instead categorized them into similar values to notice trends and how they are reflected by my daily choices and actions. Trends like "growth/education" - "purpose/service/contribution" - "creativity/fun" all made it in my Top 10 values.

What was difficult for me was sorting values into the "doesn't matter to me" category. The (few) cards that ended up in that pile weren't actually things that don't matter, but words that had "loaded" or "tainted" meanings to me. For example- on initial sort- Beauty ended up in the doesn't matter category. Why was my initial instinct to do this? I love seeing beauty in the world around me. As an artist, I strive to capture both the man-made and God-created beauty all around. I think the word beauty struck a cord with thinking "beauty" had to be artificial/fake/Instagram filtered... a concept of beauty from a time of adolescence. How might your values sort evolve over the course of your life time?
