In the BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatization of Simon Brett's novel, Bill Nighy stars as Charles Paris, an actor and amateur sleuth, who finds himself embroiled in a backstage mystery. Charles, whose career is on a modest upswing, is performing in a revival of a 70s farce. However, amidst the onstage comedy, real-life drama unfolds as the director and an audio producer die under suspicious circumstances. As secrets and skeletons threaten to surface among the cast, Charles uses his investigative instincts to uncover whether these untimely deaths were accidents or orchestrated murders. His exploration leads him through a maze of shady secrets kept by his colleagues, all of whom have something significant to hide. This blend of humor and mystery is skillfully adapted by Jeremy Front and also features Suzanne Burden as Charles' long-suffering wife, Frances.
