Come along with us on a wheelchair accessible boat ride. ‪@DNEMichigan‬ hosted a DiversAbility Day at Lake Saint Clair Metro Park. At the event, we had the opportunity to set sail with Wheels in Motion, a nonprofit organization based in Michigan that creates barrier-free opportunities for boating, adaptive mountain biking, and off-road adventures.

To accommodate wheelchair users, the boat's entry gate is extra-wide, and a hinged platform folds out to bridge the gap between the dock and the boat. The rear of the boat has a large open area for wheelchair accessibility. For your peace of mind, there are tracks on the floor to secure your wheelchair with tie-downs (the same way you would in a vehicle).

It was a hot day, but the breeze felt nice on the water. We enjoyed a trip down the canal along the park.

When we returned to the dock, disembarking was as easy as getting on the boat.
