For 70 years, the Burn Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital has provided exceptional care that turns burn victims into burn survivors. Nikki Spriggs, currently patient care manager for the Burn Center, has served in various roles during her 39 years, including bedside nurse, wound care specialist and team leader.

When asked about important personality traits for those who work in the Burn Center, Spriggs said, “Absolutely compassion is the number one thing.”

Compassion drives how they interact with patients who are dealing with intense pain, adjusting to life-long scars and learning to cope with limited mobility. Compassion also drives how the team interacts with each other. Georgia Franklin, RN and burn center nurse for 21 years, said, “The team members really support each other well. Talking with each other, debriefing after we’ve had a tough situation.”

We’re proud to celebrate 70 years of compassionate care provided by the Arkansas Children’s Burn Center. Founded in 1953, the Burn Center provides comprehensive, personal care to adult and pediatric patients. Did you know the Burn Center at Arkansas Children’s is the only burn specialty center in Arkansas? Our team members have been making an impact for 70 years with their work in the Burn Center.
