A year after the Nashville mayor’s "Choose How You Move" transit plan passed, Davidson County voters, drivers, and bus riders are seeing changes rolled out on the roads.
“Queue Jump” lanes are the latest new feature. Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell was joined by transportation officials on Wednesday to launch the new lane on Murfreesboro Pike in Antioch.
These new lanes allow a bus to route around traffic backed up on a street like Murfreesboro Pike. Not all streets will see lanes like this because they aren’t all wide enough, the Mayor’s office tells FOX17 News’ Johnny Maffei. Cars will be able to use this as a right-turn lane; other than that, they are for WEGO buses.
FOX 17 News found other cities, including Austin, Boston, and Seattle, have similar lanes. Mayor O’Connell addressed that saying transportation staff tries to learn from them.
“We are trying to have our national level partnerships inform best practices for staff here on the ground. I know that multiple WEGO and NDOT members have been to some of these National conferences, stay on webinars, we’re trying to keep our skillset refreshed,” he says.
Stay tuned on-air and online for the latest on the transit plan, including safety aspects and Metro Police’s transit unit.
