ABOUT THIS VIDEO SERIES:

Hello! This is a little video series I put together to teach people how to easily restore and rebuild a classic Hunter Original® ceiling fan. The techniques will also work for many other fans, and once restored, these fans can be worth a lot. For example, I restored another brand of antique fan that ended up being worth about $5k.

Brand new "Hunter Original®" ceiling fans now retail new for about $650-$750. Original ones, especially of the "hotel" variety, can cost $1000s on the secondary market.

Why are they so valuable? Well, first, the look amazing in any historic house. They just look right. They will literally elevate your home. Second, they last forever. Most Hunter fans will last decades, even abused ones. They seriously have a life expectancy of over 1000 years! They last so long because they have a cast-iron housing and operate using a unique oil bath system that constantly keeps the bearings bathed in oil, which eliminates nearly all wear and tear (and keeps them quite).

The best part? They are so easy to rebuild, as I show you in these videos! You can take them apart in an hour or so, repaint them, put them back together and voila, its like you have a brand new fan.

Where to find old original ones? You can find them just about anywhere, including marketplace, craigslist, and ebay. Or if you see them gutting an old house, you might find one just laying around. I found ones used in this video just lying in the dust of an old house.

Before you get started though, you will need a few things:

1. New Oil
2. A new "O-ring"
3. Possibly a new hanging bracket.
4. Possibly a new switch
5. Likely you'll need twelve -- 3/8ths flat washers -- for the fan blades

To get the true beauty out of one, you might also want to purchase a light kit and a "school house" light shade.

You can purchase all of these here: https://texasceilingfans.com/

The Texas Ceiling Fan Store is simply the best and coolest ceiling fan store around. They are some of the top experts in the country and have all the little parts that you will need. You can call them up and they will also help advise you on what parts you may need. They have a great museum too.

You can also maybe find parts here: https://www.eceilingfans.com/hunter_c...

I hope you enjoy this series! ~ Mitch
