The operation to search and rescue any person buried under the snow near 15th Mile on Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg in Sikkim was called off at 3:30 pm on Wednesday after no bodies were traced. Teams of the Indian Army, Border Road Organisation, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and Sikkim police resumed the search and rescue operations at 8 am today.

The measure was taken since the exact number of persons missing due to the snow slide could not be ascertained and it was believed that many people may still be buried in the snow. However, speaking to the media moments ago District Collector of Gangtok Tushar Nikhare confirmed that no person is missing and all the people that may have been present during the snow slide have been accounted for.

The snow slide took place at around 12:15 pm on Tuesday and claimed the lives of seven people including three from Nepal, two from West Bengal and two from Uttar Pradesh. 19 people were also injured in the incident but none of them suffered grievous injuries.
