Part of the Smithsonian Institution, The National Museum of the American Indian is a confusing place. It hosts a modest collection of American Indian artifacts, but in a former US Custom House. The majestic Beaux-Arts style building and history of the American natives don't mix together organically. Still, it's a nice place to visit in downtown Manhattan, free of charge.
