I go over a few things to keep in mind as your broodmare is about 60 days away from foaling 😊

If you plan on breeding her back after foaling, consider putting her under lights. What that means is ensuring she is getting 16 hours of light a day to help her body start cycling regularly. Horses are seasonal breeders and the light tricks her body into thinking it's spring. I use timers on their stall lights.

Get your mare off any fescue in her diet. There's a fungus that lives in virtually every fescue plant that can cause serious complications in your mare's pegnancy. I keep my mares up for the last 60 days.

5 weeks out from foaling, your mare will need her vaccinations. This will help her to transfer immunity over to her baby until the foal is old enough to get their shots.

3 weeks out from foaling, be sure to ivermectrin deworming your mare.

Her nutrition requirements are overall going to increase by about a third the last 2 or 3 months of pregnancy. Copper, zinc, vitamin E and lysine are super important during the late stages. Also be sure to increase protein and energy/calories.
