Whilst undertaking a pre-booked crossing of the Irish Sea to obtain material for new blogs to be published to www.a2bviasea.co.uk , A2B via Sea was caught up in Storm Eunice; arguably the biggest storm to hit UK waters in three decades.

Being the second of three storms to hit the UK in five days; the others being Storm Dudley and Storm Franklin, this intense weather system hit the UK on the 18th February 2022.

A2B via Sea had embarked Irish Ferries giant vessel Ulysses in Dublin early that morning. The Captain made a pre-departure announcement advising passengers that initially the crossing would be fine however, as we approach Holyhead the weather will deteriorate with winds anticipated to be Gale 8 to Storm 10.....little did we know...!

Passing the outward bound Stena Nordica we see her ploughing through the Irish Sea then, in the distance, we see the Port of Holyhead; huge waves and spin drift cascading over the breakwater.

As Ulysses enters the Welsh port we take an extreme list to port as the wind catches the ships' side.

Coming to rest off the jetty the Captain makes an announcement to say the winds are gusting to 83knots (95mph) and we were essentially "pinned' to the quay" unable to move ahead or astern.

The Stena Line vessel Stena Adventurer arrives cautiously from Dublin however, like Ulysses, Storm Eunice takes hold of her and pulls her towards the quay.

The tug not being able to hold her, Stena Adventurer aborts her manoeuvre and heads back out to sea!
