Common CV Mistake 9 - CV NOT Matching To Job Description. Candidates commonly cut and paste their current job description onto their CV, outlining their tasks, HOPING it's a match. We outline in the job descriptions the technical and soft skills we want. Your JOB in writing your CV is to communicate what skills you have that match the JD. Repeating WHAT you do doesn't mean you are good at them and have the relevant skills. This is what MOST candidates do. Set your CV apart from the crowd, communicate the skills you have, back it up with examples and tell us how those skills drove key outcomes for the business.

BUT, firstly, you have to understand what the key skills are required from the JD. Highlight those skills, match them to yours and communicate to us how it is a match. This exercise also helps you to identify potential gaps. The gaps can be addressed by demonstrating how you have gained various skills backed up by key outcomes you have achieved. The key message here is gaining different skills under each role, resulting in different results. By doing this, you have communicated to the reader that you have high learning agility and are a quick learner, thereby managing those gaps.
