Описание к видео If Your Child Bolts, Runs Off, or Gets Overwhelmed, That’s Relevant to Your Blue Badge Claim

Many parents think the Blue Badge is only for children who physically can’t walk. But the law changed in 2019, now it also covers hidden disabilities like autism, anxiety, or sensory overload. If your child can technically walk but not safely, repeatedly, or in reasonable time because of distress or risk, that counts.
.
Here’s how to describe it clearly on your form:
1. Explain what happens outdoors.
Example: “When overwhelmed, my child may suddenly bolt into roads, drop to the ground, or attempt to run off. They have no danger awareness and require 1:1 supervision at all times.”
.
2. Describe the frequency.
How often does this happen every walk, school run, or new environment? The council needs to see that it’s a consistent risk, not a one-off event.
.
3. Show how it affects travel.
Example: “We often have to abandon journeys or carry them back to the car. They cannot walk safely more than a few metres without full adult support.”
.
4. Include psychological distress.
Blue Badge guidance allows for overwhelming psychological distress. Describe how crowds, traffic, or noise lead to panic, freezing, or refusal to move.
.
5. Provide supporting evidence.
Attach your child’s DLA letter, EHCP, or professional notes confirming safety risks or meltdowns outside. Real examples carry more weight than diagnosis letters.
.
