This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.

This Core Concept video focuses on Rene Descartes' work, The Meditations, specifically on meditation 4, in which Descartes discusses the power and range of the will, and the extent of the will's freedom. The will, according to Descartes, has a capacity so unlimited that it resembles the divine will in some respects. Descartes also affirms that the will being inclined by knowledge or divine grace does not remove or lessen the freedom of the will.
