The fire at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, disrupted one of South Africa's busiest travel hubs, with reports indicating it may have originated in the Kenya Airways office near gates A4 and A5. Although the blaze was reported at 11:15 AM and successfully extinguished shortly after, it caused a massive power outage and knocked out critical IT, Wi-Fi, and baggage systems, forcing the temporary suspension of international departures and the diversion of incoming global flights. While Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that all passengers and staff remained safe and that power was restored by 6:30 PM, an official investigation is still determining whether a major electrical fault or IT cabling issue was the definitive cause. Operations have largely resumed, but travelers are still advised to use the ACSA Mobile App or contact their airlines to manage ongoing residual delays.By 7-m over 4000 passengers were still queing up.
