To get this concept, keep it simple. Your scope statement is not the same as the SOW (from your customer). It is a very different document that accounts for a lot of detail.

It is a great example of how scope grows and how it also gets lost if you don't know the details of the customer requirements. The customer wants a chicken sandwich....but what if they want it from scratch? Or What if the customer wants a custom solution that you missed in a document? The project scope statement helps the team understand what work needs to be done to accomplish the end goal.
