THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT, Johnny Maestro, (Coed #557) 1961
Flipside: I.O.U. – Here is another really great cover version from my music collection. I'm uploading this on my YouTube channel to once again honor the memory of the late great Johnny Maestro (May 7, 1939 - March 24, 2010). He left us way too soon. He was loved by his many fans and had a remarkable recording career that left us all with so many great songs.

He was the lead singer of The Crests who had 10 songs charted nationally on Billboard. Their biggest song was “16 CANDLES” which was recorded in 1958 on (Coed #506) and charted in February 1959 for 16 weeks reaching #2.

Later he was the lead singer of The Brooklyn Bridge who had 7 songs charted nationally on Billboard. Their biggest was “THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN” which was recorded in 1968 on (Buddah #75) and charted in February 1969 for 12 weeks reaching #3.

Johnny Maestro recorded several solo songs through the years that didn't chart. This one, “THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT” recorded in 1961, is just one of the great solo ballads he "gave" us. It is speculated that Roger & The Travelers provided the background vocals for this recording.

Johnny Maestro’s unmistakable voice is with us forever. I've produced him & The Brooklyn Bridge many times through my 42 plus years in the music business. He was a dear friend, and he is sadly missed.

“THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT” was written by Dorothy Fields and Jerome Kern. The song was first performed in the 1936 film ‘Swing Time’ which starred Fred Astaire, who sang the song.

“THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT” is considered a standard and has been covered by many artists: Teddy Wilson/Orchestra-vocal-Billie Holiday (1936), The Merry Macs (1940), The Dinning Sisters (1945), Polly Bergen (1955), Eddie Fisher (1956), The Jaguars (1956), The Four Lads (1956), Doris Day (1958), The Coasters (1960), The Lettermen (1961), Andy Williams (1962), Connie Francis (1963), Jimmy Roselli (1963), The Tymes (1963), Frank Sinatra (1964) and just too many more to list!

Enjoy this really great cover version of “THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT” by the late “GREAT” Johnny Maestro.
