Welcome to our vlog on Son Beel, the largest wetland in southern Assam.
Located in the Karimganj district, Son Beel is a unique natural wonder that transforms with the seasons. During the winter, this expansive area becomes fertile farmland for rice cultivation. However, once the rainy season begins, it fills with water, transforming into a picturesque lake.

Son Beel is not just a visual delight but also an ecological haven. The wetland is home to 89 bird species, including the near-threatened black-headed ibis and the lesser adjutant. Fishery is another highlight, providing livelihood to many local communities. The lake is surrounded by scenic hills and is dotted with Hizol trees (Barringtonia acutangula), which remain half-submerged during the wet season, adding to its beauty

To get here, you can travel from Karimganj, which is just 43 km away, or from Silchar, around 68.5 km away. Both routes offer various transportation options like buses, private taxis, and rented cars
The best time to visit Son Beel is from March till the beginning of winter, when the lake is full and the surroundings are lush and green. Whether you’re here to capture the stunning sunrise and sunset, enjoy a boat ride, or simply take in the serene environment, Son Beel promises an unforgettable experience.

Don't forget to respect the local environment and enjoy your time at this breathtaking natural gem.
