Is your jade plant looking sad lately? Drooping leaves, yellow spots, or maybe it just isn’t growing? In this video, I’ll show you 7 signs your jade plant is unhealthy—and exactly how to fix them—so you can get it thriving again. Stick around until the end because #7 is one that surprises a lot of jade owners!
Sign number one is yellowing leaves. This usually means overwatering. Jade plants store water in their leaves, so too much moisture makes them soft and yellow. The fix? Let the soil dry completely before watering again, and always use a well-draining soil mix.
Sign number two is wrinkled or shriveled leaves. This is the opposite problem—underwatering. When jade plants are thirsty, their leaves lose that plump look. The fix is simple: give your plant a deep watering until water drains out the bottom, then let the soil dry before the next watering.
Sign number three is leaf drop. This can happen from sudden temperature changes, overwatering, or not enough light. Keep your jade in a bright spot with consistent care, and avoid moving it around too much.
Sign number four is leggy growth. If your jade looks stretched out with long stems and small leaves, it’s not getting enough light. Move it to a sunny window or add a grow light. You can also pinch or prune stems to encourage branching.
Sign number five is brown spots or scars on the leaves. This could be sunburn from direct, harsh sunlight or even a pest issue like mealybugs. If it’s sunburn, move your jade to bright but indirect light. If pests are the problem, wipe the leaves with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
Sign number six is root rot. This is serious, and it happens when jade plants sit in wet soil too long. The leaves may look mushy or start falling off. To save it, unpot your jade, cut away any black or mushy roots, and repot into fresh, dry, fast-draining soil.
Sign number seven is no new growth. Jades grow slowly, but if yours hasn’t grown in months, it might be pot-bound, lacking nutrients, or in its dormant phase. Repot if roots are crowded, and feed it with a balanced fertilizer during spring and summer.
If you spot any of these signs early, you can bring your jade plant back to life. Which of these issues have you dealt with? Let me know in the comments! And if you found this video helpful, give it a like and subscribe to Moody Blooms for more plant care tips.
