Have you listened to the music genre ‘트로트’? If you watch Korean TV shows, I’m sure you know what kinda music it is. Because it’s really popular nowadays.
But it has been only a while since it got popular again. I mean It’s an old music and it has been popular among our parents generation or above. So young people took it kinda old fashioned music

However, it got really trendy this year bcuz of the TV show ‘미스 트롯’.
It’s a competition program about 트로트. Ever since it became successful, 트로트 became a popular content. For example, number one comedian 유재석 tried 트로트 or after 미스 트롯, 미스터 트롯 was made and it became even more popular.

History of 트로트
Trot (트로트, RR: teuroteu) is a genre of Korean popular music. During Japanese colonial rule in around 1920, Enca which is a mix of Japanese folk music and Western fox-trot was really popular in Japan and Korean was influenced by Enca at that time. Yea so Trot is rooted in Japanese Enca music. Then later 트로트 settled down with its own Korean style.
However it is very controversial that Trot is not rooted in Enca. So just refer to it
