Civil Engineering Jobs – 3 Myths that you should overcome

Описание к видео Civil Engineering Jobs – 3 Myths that you should overcome

Civil Engineering jobs are in demand. However, many civil engineers and civil engineering students feel that the number of civil engineers is more and the available civil engineering jobs are not that lucrative.

Many civil engineering jobs aspirants are confused about their ability to succeed. Many don’t know the opportunities available. Many just hear the discouraging words of civil engineers who are unhappy.

Here I will speak about 3 Myths that you should know.

Myth 1 – Civil engineering jobs are always site based and tough.

Not true. Civil engineering jobs are not always site based. There is plethora of opportunities in civil engineering that don’t need to be at site all the time. Structural design is such an option.

You can start with structural detailing or BIM based tools like Revit or even structural design.

Also mind you, site-based jobs are not bad or tough either. You need to be at the right place.

You should also have sound technical understanding of what you are doing to enjoy it.

MYTH 2- Structural Engineering is difficult

All jobs will have challenges. However, there is a difference between a challenge and difficulty. Some thing is difficult when you don’t like it and want to give up. Some thing is challenging when you like it and want to solve it.

If you understand structural analysis and design in a logical way, connecting to practicality, there can be nothing as easy as structural design. The key is in believing in yourself and starting to know it better.
You may need a mentor to help you. However, if you get the grip of it, your hunt for success ends there. So, start now.

MYTH 3 - I need masters in structures for design.

Not really true. Most of the successful and pioneers in structure in India and abroad essentially don’t have their masters.

That does not mean you don’t have to do your masters if you have an opportunity.

What I mean is, understanding the subject and experience are more important and mandatory than masters.

I can tell that many who has masters just do the course just for the sake of a masters. There are only a handful who are technically sound. But many are doing structural jobs. That’s by improving their knowledge at work. You can do it with a degree if you have the determination.

That’s all I wanted to tell you today. So, kick start your journey.
