A group of six students from different regions of India embarked on a journey to the United States to take part in the prestigious NASA Rover Challenge 2023. These remarkable individuals, who have never before ventured beyond their own villages, went to the renowned American agency's Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Selected from a pool of participants comprising children's homes, remote villages, and cities across India, these students, aged between 14 and 18 years, have earned the opportunity to participate in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2023. Mentored by the Young Tinker Educational Foundation based in Odisha, these aspiring engineers come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Out of the 61 teams chosen from around the world, this exceptional team has proven their mettle. Among the members are Siddhanth Ghosh from Mumbai, Chittineni Akarsh from Andhra Pradesh, Sai Akshara Vemuri from Andhra Pradesh, and Basudeba Bhoi, Akanksha Das, and Om Padhi from Odisha.
Their remarkable achievement lies in the creation of a rover capable of exploring the surfaces of Mars and the Moon while collecting invaluable data and images. With their sights set on representing India at the international level, these students are eagerly anticipating their upcoming journey to Huntsville, Alabama, scheduled for April 14.
Akanksha Das, who resides in an orphanage and studies at the government ITI Bhubaneswar, shared with ANI, "The interview process spanned across India, with over five thousand students participating. From those, six students were selected to represent India in the NASA Rover Challenge. We submitted a proposal to NASA, which they accepted, and we diligently followed all the guidelines. Our team has developed a lightweight rover. In the previous edition, we achieved a world ranking of 3, and this year, we are aiming to secure the top position in the world rankings."
The remarkable journey of these talented students is a testament to their perseverance, determination, and the transformative power of opportunities provided to young minds across India.
