The Alborz ( Persian: البرز) range, also spelled as Alburz, Elburz or Elborz, is a mountain range in northern Iran that stretches from the border of Azerbaijan along the western and entire southern coast of the Caspian Sea and finally runs northeast and merges into the smaller Aladagh Mountains and borders in the northeast on the parallel mountain ridge Kopet Dag in the northern parts of Khorasan. All these mountains are part of the much larger Alpide belt. This mountain range is divided into the Western, Central, and Eastern Alborz Mountains. The Western Alborz Range (usually called the Talysh) runs south-southeastward almost along the western coast of the Caspian Sea. The Central Alborz (the Alborz Mountains in the strictest sense) runs from west to east along the entire southern coast of the Caspian Sea, while the Eastern Alborz Range runs in a northeasterly direction, toward the northern parts of the Khorasan region, southeast of the Caspian Sea. Mount Damavand, the highest mountain in Iran measuring 5,610.0 m (18,405.5 ft), is located in the Central Alborz Mountains. This place is one of the coldest places in Iran. This place is also one of the coldest places in the world. The temperature in these areas sometimes reaches minus 30 degrees Celsius and is always covered with snow. Snowstorms happen a lot in these areas

البرز رشته کوهی در بخش شمالی ایران است. این رشته کوه از سوی باختر از جمهوری آذربایجان آغاز می‌شود و در سوی شرق تا درون ترکمنستان و افغانستان دنباله می‌یابد. بخش بزرگی از البرز در راستای کنارهٔ جنوبی دریای مازندران کشیده شده‌است. در این بخش، جبههٔ شمالی البرز سرسبز و جبههٔ جنوبی آن خشک است. یک دلیل این دوگانگی وجود رشته کوه البرز است که همچون سدّی طبیعی از گذر رطوبتِ برخاسته از دریای مازندران به سوی جنوب جلوگیری می‌کند و بیشتر این رطوبت در جبههٔ شمالی البرز می‌بارد.

بلندترین کوه البرز و ایران، کوه دماوند (۵۶۱۰ متر) است که در استان مازندران، شهرستان آمل، شهر رینه قرار دارد و یکی از سردترین نقاط ایران و جهان است. دما در این مناطق سرد گاهی به منفی 30 درجه و یا بیشتر می رسد. دامنه‌ها و دره‌های البرز از تفرجگاه‌های مهم مردم استان‌های مازندران، تهران، زنجان، البرز، قزوین و سمنان است
