India and China are attempting to normalise their disputed border and military standoff in eastern Ladakh. However, the battle for the Indian Ocean remains unresolved. India has lagged behind China in the development of nuclear-powered attack submarines, described by maritime experts as the true arbiters of sea power. The Indian government has now sanctioned funds for the development and construction of two made-in-India nuclear-powered attack submarines. These will be the first two of at least six that the Navy hopes to operate.
