In this powerful and inspiring talk, Neenu Kewlani shares her remarkable journey of overcoming physical disabilities and societal barriers to become a passionate advocate for the rights and inclusion of disabled individuals. Through her personal story of resilience, Kewlani emphasizes the importance of self-determination and how breaking down societal limitations is crucial to building an inclusive world. From traveling extensively to raise awareness to winning the title of Ms. Wheelchair India, her accomplishments underscore the transformative power of self-belief, persistence, and purpose. Kewlani's message challenges preconceived notions about disability, urging people to find strength in their purpose and use it to create positive change, not only for themselves but for society as a whole. Neenu Kewlani, born on October 6th in Mumbai, pursued a B.Com degree despite severe health challenges from a polio vaccine at 9 months old, which left her limbs non-functional and caused scoliosis. Supported by her family, she completed her graduation through distance education and explored careers in tutoring, telemarketing, and voice-over work. Joining ADAPT in 1999 marked a pivotal point as she advocated for accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), securing features in organizations and winning a PIL against BEST for 30 disabled-friendly buses in Mumbai. Featured on NDTV and CNN-IBN, Neenu has received awards like the Rotary Club Sion's vocational excellence award and was named Ms. Wheelchair India in 2013. She now works in her family’s Offset Printing Press business and has been active in Toastmasters International since 2009, showcasing her resilience and commitment to making a positive impact. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
