Revised ISO 5840:2021 pointed out that due to the complexity and time-consuming requirements of the durability test of heart valve substitutes, a combination of AWT (Accelerated Wear Testing), DFM (Dynamic Failure Mode Testing), RWT (Real-Time Wear Testing) may be appropriate. Annex J (Durability testing) of ISO 5840:2021 has detailed descriptions and guidelines for these methods.

In response to the ISO 5840:2021, Medical Implant Testing Lab (MITL) have brought an innovative heart valve durability tester: AWT-2000. The modularized design of AWT-2000 combines different functional modules to make the equipment in the best working condition when performing various tests (AWT, DFM, DFM), showing outstanding operating effects:
① Coordinated dual high frequency small motor mode, is suitable for working at high frequency (1200~3600BPM) and maintain huge pressure differential, which meets the requirements of AWT testing and strict DFM testing, and further improves testing efficiency;
② High output and large motor mode, which performs better at low frequency (≤200BPM), and easily meets the pressure differential requirement of RWT test.

AWT-2000 is the first to integrate a high-speed camera, and the software has also developed a complete imaging function to provide a better test experience:
① 1 high-speed camera by default (up to 4 for each test unit);
② The default camera is 500FPS (800FPS is optional);
③ The specially designed lifting stand can easily focus the camera;
④ Ring LED light with adjustable brightness, installed coaxially with the camera;
⑤ Humanized software function, even one camera can collect images of each independent test unit in turn.

AWT-2000 has 4 independent test units, each unit is fixed with each module through a buckle, and the water pump and quick connector are used to add or drain liquid. Even though the AWT-2000 has a large flow channel with an huge inner diameter of 70mm, it is still easy and convenient to install and remove the sample, inject and discharge the test liquid. AWT-2000 has a dual temperature control system and an ultrasonic liquid level sensor, which is safer.

In addition to common functions such as pressure compensation, drive waveform generation, and regular data collection, the AWT DAQ system also supports synchronous regular collection of data and images (at a high speed of 500FPS), and automatically names and archives data and images.
The built-in player of the AWT DAQ system has functions such as intelligent loading, fast forward, fast backward and locating, making valve image analysis more convenient.

Therefore, the innovative AWT-2000 is an excellent choice for heart valve durability testing.
