Is This Oman's Most Dangerous Hike? | W6 Balcony Walk Hike | Jebel Shams

Our Oman travel guide takes us to the area of Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak. But rather than hiking up Jebel Shams, we set off to attempt the infamous W6 – Balcony walk Hike.

If you research people’s views on this middle east mountain hike, you will get the impression that it’s a ridiculously dangerous undertaking and probably Oman’s most dangerous hike! We were imagining a tiny, narrow path with immediate vertical drop-offs of hundreds of metres, all the way to the base of Wadi Ghul – Oman’s Grand Canyon.

Undeterred, we drove the challenging roads through the Al Hajar mountains, from Wadi Damm to Al Khitaym – the village where the balcony walk hike begins. So, sit back and relax, as we do all the hard work to reach the abandoned village of As Sab, the end goal of the balcony walk hike.

Emily will be the first to admit, she’s not great with heights, so if she can do it, anybody can! The short answer – it’s really an easy hike and not dangerous at all. So, if you’re looking for some exciting things to do in Oman, add this hike to your list. Day trips from Muscat are definitely possible, too!
