HISTORY
On January 24, 1943, Soviet forces captured Gumrak Airfield, a vital lifeline for the encircled German 6th Army in Stalingrad. The airfield had been the last functional point for the Luftwaffe to deliver supplies and evacuate the wounded. With the Soviet advance overwhelming the area, Gumrak fell into Soviet hands, effectively cutting off any remaining hope for the German forces to receive reinforcements or supplies. The loss of Gumrak marked a significant turning point, sealing the fate of the German 6th Army as they were now completely trapped in the ruined city, leading to their eventual surrender.
