🌿 Origin & Name
Kallady refers to rocky forest terrain once used for timber and plantation activities.
Yalattumugam is an old local forest name, believed to be linked with tribal settlements and traditional forest paths used by indigenous people.
The area was known to tribal communities long before modern roads existed.
🌱 British Plantation Period
During the British era, parts of this forest were converted into plantation zones (teak, coffee, and forest produce).
Roads were cut through the forest mainly for wood transport and plantation management, not tourism.
These roads later became public routes.

Yalattumugam lies on an elephant migratory path connecting Silent Valley and nearby forest ranges.
Even today, elephants, deer, wild boar, and leopards are frequently sighted.
