Описание к видео Duke Robillard interview, from Chuck Berry to Muddy Waters and Bob Dylan

In this Blues Matters interview, Colin Campbell speaks with legendary guitarist and bandleader Duke Robillard from his home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Duke takes it right back to the spark that made him want to play guitar as a child, inspired by early rock and roll records from Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Little Richard. He shares the true story of building his first guitar for a science fair, learning by watching his brother’s fingers, and stepping on stage for the first time as a teenager.

From there, Duke talks through the early days of Roomful of Blues, discovering Chicago blues and classic R&B, and the long road from local gigs to bigger stages. He also reflects on playing with the masters, including sitting in with Muddy Waters, and how those experiences shaped his approach to blues guitar and singing.

The conversation moves into Duke’s time with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, meeting Stevie Ray Vaughan early on, and the realities of touring then versus now. Duke also discusses working with Bob Dylan, his approach to learning songs by ear, and what “the blues” really means to him as a lifelong musician.

Finally, Duke introduces his latest album Blast Off on Nola Blue Records, explaining the mix of styles he wanted to capture and why this record matters to him at this stage of his career.
