On Monday, The Vatican unveiled a new AI enabled service that gives you a opportunity to experience the Renaissance-era architectural beauty ST Peter’s Basilica , within the confines of your home. Working with tech firm Microsoft and Iconem, , the Vatican launched a interactive website named  Virtual.BasilicaSanPietro.va , allows anyone in the world to “visit” the virtual 3D model of St. Peter’s Basilica, generated using AI progamme, which devolved a data based on 400,000 high resolution images that is taken by high flying drones and lasers. The website gives the users an opportunity to experience the hidden treasures of the basilica including the soaring balchadin which acts as the entrance to the church , the majestic wooden throne of St Peter’s , the iconic 2,000 year old tomb and many others. Commenting about the historical project , Microsoft’s vice chair and President Brad Smith said that the 3D replica of the basilica is one of the most technologically advanced and sophisticated projects he had ever pursued. Smith, also ensures that this 3D makes it possible to experience the basilica in a way that no older generation has ever seen it before. The virtual experience doesn’t stop at showcasing the beauty of today’s St Peter’s Basilica,but it also takes users back in time by giving us a glimpse of the old basilica . The website also provides a time lapse model of the construction of St Peter’s Basilica. The website is divided into three chapthers, the first chapter in Brad Smith’s words is about the story of ST Peter’s life as written in the gospel. The second and the third chapter covers the transformations of the site of St. Peter’s tomb over the course of nearly 2,000 years .The Pope Francis, on the event of unveiling of the website , spoke about how the AI must be exclusively used for the betterment of the mankind. The new experiences were unveiled in time where the Catholic Church is going to celebrate its Jubilee Celebration in 2025, and the Vatican excepts around 30 million visitors in the next year’s jubilee celebrations.
